Located just 30 minutes from downtown Knoxville, the town of Farragut is one of the most family friendly municipalities in the state of Tennessee. Nestled in a valley between the Cumberland Plateau and the Great Smoky Mountains, Farragut is home to lakes, extensive parks and greenways, picturesque farmland and a variety of subdivisions.
Although it wasn’t until 1980 that the Town of Farragut was incorporated, the area has an extensive history. The town is named in honor of the first Admiral of the US Navy, Admiral David Farragut, who was born in an area known as Campbell's Station, near the current intersection of Campbell Station Road and Kingston Pike, in 1801. At that time the area was mainly a posting inn stop for area forts. A fort and stage coach station was built there by David Campbell in 1787. The brick Campbell's Station Inn was built there in 1810 and still stands, in use as a private residence, on Kingston Pike within sight of the Farragut Town Hall. In 1854, James Rodgers staked 55 lots around old Concord Village. The village grew up with increased railway trade and was at one point the second largest settlement in Tennessee with the help of traffic from the Tennessee River. The Civil War Battle of Campbell's Station was fought in what is now Farragut on November 16, 1863.
We have come a long way from the early settlement days. As of the last census, the town has over 20,000 residents. Farragut has an as excellent public school system, and private school options are close nearby. In addition, there are a plethora of entertainment and shopping options in the Farragut area, as well as many local churches, and the Farragut branch of the Knoxville Library.
